In his keynote presentation at ADAPT’s Cloud and Infrastructure Edge, Matt Boon, Senior Research Director at ADAPT, discusses insights from ADAPT’s 2024 surveys.

He emphasises the importance of modernisation, collaboration, and resilience in organisational strategy, highlighting these as key areas identified from recent survey findings.

There is the necessity for leaders to manage crises while preparing for the future.

Organisations need to reassess and improve strategies continuously to better face inevitable challenges.

Matt discusses the main execution barriers reported by respondents, such as lack of funding, technical debt, and competing business priorities.

The focus remains on aligning around common goals to enhance resilience across the organisation.

The comparison of different peer groups’ challenges, especially between CISOs and other business leaders, reveals a significant need for better alignment between cyber resilience and overall business resilience.

Matt notes the concerning gap in alignment and suggests improving collaboration could enhance overall organisational resilience.

Moving to specific goals and initiatives for the coming year, Matt highlights tech modernisation and simplification as top priorities, with organisations reporting about 52% progress in modernisation.

He emphasises the importance of cloud adoption, cost optimisation, and AI strategy development.

Matt examines the interdependence of these areas and the potential for increased modernisation to drive better business outcomes, including improved security, resilience, and profitability.

He encourages organisations to leverage recent learnings to ensure resilience and continue modernisation efforts.

Key takeaways:

  • Modernisation and resilience: There is a need for continuous modernisation to improve collaboration and overall organisational resilience, which is essential for effectively managing future crises.
  • Alignment and collaboration: Organisations need to align cyber resilience with business resilience and improve collaboration across different business units to overcome barriers like technical debt, lack of funding, and competing priorities.
  • Strategic investment: Focusing on strategic investments in cloud adoption, cost optimisation and AI development are critical areas to accelerate modernisation and enhance overall business effectiveness and profitability.
