In a conversation at Security Edge, Mitch Ryan and James Ng shared how unified visibility and shared accountability strengthen multi cloud security.

Mitch Ryan, Senior Solutions Engineer at Wiz, highlighted how the rapid expansion of cloud ecosystems is outpacing most organisations’ ability to manage them.

Over 80% of enterprises report limited or no unification across their cloud platforms, increasing fragmentation and security exposure as nearly all now operate across multiple providers.

ADAPT data reinforces this, showing that most organisations rate themselves below five out of ten in using or defending against AI-driven attacks, reflecting a broader maturity gap in managing complex, distributed systems.

Wiz, founded only five years ago, works with many of the world’s largest banks and insurers to simplify security management across hybrid environments.

Ryan explained that more than half of Wiz customers join what the company calls the “Zero Critical Club” within their first year, eliminating their most serious risks.

Notably, 55% of Wiz users are not part of security teams, a number even higher in Asia-Pacific.

This reflects Wiz’s approach to “democratising” security by enabling developers and operations teams to detect and resolve risks directly, rather than overloading central security functions.

For Ryan, this cultural shift turns security into an organisational capability rather than a specialist bottleneck.

James Ng, Chief Information Security Officer at Insignia Financial, manages an environment that spans AWS, Google Cloud, and on-prem infrastructure supporting $320 billion in assets.

Since joining two years ago, Ng has expanded his security team from six to more than forty specialists, a signal of executive commitment to embed security as a business-critical function.

He said visibility is one of the biggest challenges of operating across multiple platforms, and Insignia’s partnership with Wiz helps link vulnerabilities to business context, giving teams a shared view of what matters most.

James described how context-driven risk management and the democratisation of security are reshaping his operating model.

Non-security teams use Wiz to identify and fix risks within their workflows, supported by features like gamification and trend tracking that build healthy competition across departments.

This approach embeds security into daily operations and creates continuous accountability.

For Insignia, resilience now depends on simplifying governance and enabling every team to contribute to risk reduction through continuous threat exposure management.

Both speakers agreed that effective cloud security begins with visibility and ownership.

By connecting every layer from code to cloud and empowering all teams to act, organisations can scale securely without slowing innovation.

Key takeaways

  • Multi cloud fragmentation increases risk: Over 80% of organisations lack unified management across cloud platforms, weakening visibility and control. Wiz’s integrated “code-to-cloud” approach addresses this by linking assets, users, and workloads under one framework.
  • Security must be shared across teams: With 55% of Wiz users coming from non-security roles and over half of customers joining the “Zero Critical Club” in a year, the results show that embedding security into everyday workflows is more effective than centralised oversight.
  • Insignia Financial builds context-driven resilience: Managing $320 billion in assets across AWS, Google Cloud, and on-prem environments, Insignia grew its security team sevenfold while empowering all departments to own risk through continuous threat exposure management and gamified accountability.
