Brett Watson

Director, Payments and Open Banking at KPMG

Brett leads KPMG’s Payments Advisory practice and is passionate about the payments business and the continuing innovation in the payments space.

The constant evolution of the payments space driven by changing customer preferences, digitisation, regulation, new platform models and emerging competitors is what makes payments so interesting.

Brett has a unique perspective on the payments business. As well as 10 years consulting experience across Australia, the US and Europe, he has held senior payments, technology and digital roles with two of Australia’s major banks.

‘This broad experience has given me a deep understanding of the fundamentals of the payments business and taught me to have a relentless focus on customer experience when it comes to designing new products or processes.’

Brett has more than 25 years’ experience in financial services and consulting providing advice on all elements of transaction banking, working capital and payments for both emerging and traditional service providers as well as major users of payments such as large corporate and government. This includes payments strategy, product design and development, project execution, operating model design, risk management and process design.

Outside of work Brett is a husband and father of two. He is a keen cyclist and has followed the Tour de France a number of times. He is also regularly seen exploring the restaurants and wineries of the Mornington Peninsula.
