David Bate

As VMware’s Vice President of Cloud, Asia-Pacific and Japan, David Bate is responsible for leading cloud sales and go-to-market efforts, launching and growing the VMware Cloud on AWS business, and accelerating the VMware Cloud Provider Program across the APJ region.

David has over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and IT industry. His wide range of experience covers sales leadership, consulting, business partner and channel management, business development, operational management and corporate governance.

Prior to his role at VMware, David was Vice President for IBM Hybrid Cloud in Asia-Pacific. This followed a number of regional cloud computing and software leadership roles across middleware, software sales and operations. He has lived and worked primarily in Asia and growth market territories such as the Middle East and Africa, and is now based in Singapore.

David holds an honors degree in electrical engineering from the University of Canterbury, and a business degree in management and commercial law from the Victoria University of Wellington.
