UNSW’s Chief Data and Insights Officer, Kate Carruthers, says the only way to prove the value of data is to solve a business problem.

The key to getting buy-in for data initiatives was to reiterate the data strategy of “getting people the information and insights they need to know to do their job and do that without having to ask for it.”

By helping stakeholders across the organisation understand the power of data and insights, Kate established a serverless data lake that broke down silos and integrated data into a singular channel to service them.

Kate leveraged partnerships with Contino, Altis, Microsoft and Databricks to supplement her team’s growing data literacy and provide insights to departments across UNSW.
